Furniture Woman
One January I was feeling grumpy and exhausted from after-Christmas blahs. I feel like a piece of furniture in my own house, I thought. I'm not creative and I'm sure I never will be again.
I sulked a few days, then it struck me that I could make a mask about that feeling of being stuck, so I created Furniture Woman.
Surprise! As soon as I made her, my creative juices started flowing again. My lesson: When a strong feeling arises, use it. It wants me to learn something. Honor it by creating something from it, then notice what I learned.
She says:
“I am a piece of furniture, a dry piece of wood in my house, mute and dull as a chest of drawers. People pass by. I stay stuck in my alcove.”
