Psyche
Psyche came into being because of a book I read by Jungian analyst Robert Johnson titled simply, She. Johnson explores ancient myths for the valuable information they give for modern living. Psyche's story is that she wanted to be reunited with her lover Eros, but the gods forbade it until she performed three impossible tasks. One was that she had to sort a mountain of seeds and grains. She despaired until armies of ants came to the rescue and did the sorting for her.
This myth still applies to modern women, Johnson said, because women are always sorting things: laundry, papers, relationships, clutter. I made Psyche to remind myself to delegate and that help sometimes comes in unexpected forms.
She says:
“I knew I would never be able to sort those seeds, I knew I would fail — and yet help arrived. Now I remember the ants and ask for support.”
